Apple Lighning Adapter
Information on the lightning adaptor by Apple.
Apple has introduced a new device port with this generation, the "Lightning Port", which is also used for other devices such as the iPod Touch 5G and iPod nano 7G.
There is a chip in the lightning cable which fulfills several important tasks at the same time:
- Insertion and removal of the lightning cable is automatically detected
- The lightning cable (and the Chip) will not have any effect until the cable is completely inserted into the device (iPhone or iPod). It is only then that the chip and the cable are activated by a signal from the device.
- The chip decides which pins are required and unlocks them depending on the device inserted.
It is also important to note that the chip determines whether the iPhone receives electricity via the connected device (charger, external battery etc) or supplies a current.
Our test results
The iPhone 6 and all other Apple devices which use the lightning port can be connected to the external batteries from XTPower with the original lightning charger cable from Apple (part of the Apple delivery package).
